Brooklyn Bridge

On Friday Danielle and I decided to walk to Brooklyn Bridge..

Let the Adventure Begin!

It was super gorgeous and we really had a a whole lot of fun. I know we will be doing this again soon.

Oh so we started talking to this cop- he is from Long Island. Andddd has an accent. So we asked him if he could say a few words for us..

After our walk, we headed up to the burger joint (the place I blogged about earlier with the neon sign) and had lunch.

We were having such a good day together that we decided to stop for dessert on the way home! I got a heath bar cheese cake, and Danielle got some kind of amazing apple pie..

To the side of our booth, there were a bunch of little cereal boxes stacked up.. I wondered how many rows they went back- so I reached my hand over, and to my surprise- someone on the other side grabbed my fingers!! I got up on my seat and looked over to find these guys that were messin with me hahahaha

They also gave me a box of Raisin Bran haha

When we got home we decided to party in Kyles room. Since he is currently away on vacation, we sent him this video!

Danielle tried on some of his clothes too!

Overall- Friday was a really good day for us. Really good quality best friend time :]

Bang-a-rang

I am happy to report that yesterday was a really really good day for us. One of the guys I sat next to the day before at my volunteer event had a variety of organic apples on his table- and before I left he offered me one. So I woke Danielle up with breakfast in bed- Cinnamon toast and an organic apple! Yumm

At around noon we headed for our first destination- The Parlour in Greenpoint. (The salon that Danielle works at) - she set up a hair cut appointment for me with one of the assistants. The place was BEAUTIFUL! Danielle is super lucky to be able to hang out in this place all the time. Check it out-

The owner also brings her dog Ozzy into work everyday! He was soooo adorable and friendly. I wish I would have taken a picture of him!

After my hair appointment- we were headed to the city. Instead of getting on the train, then getting off half way, walking a couple blocks, getting on a different train, then still waiting an hour to get to our destination- we decided to take a shortcut!

The Ferry! Besides being super windy and ruining my new hair- it was so gorgeous and a ton of fun. Especially since we hadn't experienced this before. :]

We also passed this little island that is in-between Queens and Manhattan... I looked it up later to find out its called Roosevelt Island. We will definitely be checking that out sometime soon. (If you look closely - you can see the Empire State Building on the left!)

Once we got into the city we decided to get some dinner before our church service. Where did we end up again? I'm sure you all can guess..

Yup. Chipotle. I'm pretty sure that if we are still craving burritos after a month of being here- then we will definitely always be Southern California girls at heart. Thats for sure..

Once I got home I was finally able to look in the mirror and take a picture of my new hair for you all. Check it out- I'm bangin' :]

Zoo. NYCares.

Part I: Bronx Zoo

Yesterday Alex and I woke up early so that we could go visit the Bronx Zoo! But first we made a quick stop by her school to pick up a couple of her buddies to join us on our adventure.

And we stopped by this coffee shop in Tribeca  before heading out.

I got an avocado sandwich. yumm.

Finally after an hour train ride- we reached out destination!

Welcome to the Bronx Zoo- the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States.

Nyala

Pride Rock

Geladas

 Giraffes!

 Emerald Tree Boa

White Frog That I Didn't Catch The Name Of

Young Brown Bears

Baby American Alligator

Sleeping Polar Bear

Monkeys In Love

Since we all had to be somewhere at 3pm, so we couldn't go around to see all the animals.. I'm planning on returning next week though, so there are more animal pictures to come!

Part II: New Green City

This annual event is held at Union Square Park and held by the Grow New York City organization. Their objective is to educate the community about conversing energy and recycling. :] As I mentioned before- I am an official New York Cares volunteer, so I got a cool volunteer shirt, and a pin! :D

My first job was to go around and try to get people to do a scavanger hunt but going to each tent and asking questions on a form I was handing out. Thaaatttt didn't go so well. People hated me! New Yorkers are tough!! So then after failing at that- They gave me a new job. To sit at this table and look pretty :] Bingo- I can do that!

I actually did a lot more that just sit there. This is the New Farmer Development Project table- the project coordinator had to leave, so he gave me a crash coarse on the project and told me all the information I needed to know to be able to provide information to people and give answers.

It was actually a lot of fun. I got to talk to soooo many people about the project, which I loved doing :]

In case you guys are wondering- this project helps new immigrant farmers find land in New York City, it provides them with low interest loans, and the project also gives the farmers training on how to start their business- so training in production and marketing pretty much. This project helps bring new farmers markets to NYC and preserves farmland as well.

Once the event was over, I helped with all the breakdown- and got to go home a little early. :]

C MADAMS C

After celebrating National Taco Day early last night- Danielle and I met up with all our ladies back at home on Skype for our Madam C book club meeting. We also decided to change our name from Madam C to include two more initials (for our new official members Chels and Stace- welcome!!)...

Introducing...

C MADAMS C.. in mustaches..

Even our new book- "The Help" wore mustaches.. hahahaha

We all had a really good time- and you can barely see him, but Kyle also joined in on the fun! :]

As far as today goes.. today was a relaxing day.. well for me anyway. I got to start our new book- which is SO GOOD ALREADY. I'm loving it. Props to Moret for choosing it this month!

And Danielle got to painfully do her laundry for the second time... I can't imagine how difficult this is going to be for her when the snow comes around! hahaha aww poor girl :]

Fun Mail

Yesterday I got up early with Danielle and went to church while she headed to work. Something really awesome happened at church too- a girl came up to me after noticing my CSULB shirt and told me how she goes there and is just visiting NY for a week. What are the odds of that? Meeting someone from California that also goes to my school? Super awesome. I have a new friend when I return home now!

Anyways after church I did a couple chores and went home not feeling well. I did, however, get a chance to browse through all the New York Cares projects and found four upcoming projects that I ended up volunteering for.. The first one is on Wednesday :] I will be volunteering at Union Square for New York City's largest annual green event- New Green City.

Today I completed a lot of my weekly goals, and Danielle has been sick today, so she rested as much as she could before MAC had her come in for more paperwork..

The best part of the day though.. so far at least... was when Danielle and I received a surprise package from Evan and Justin. See Below.

Evan and Justin took it upon themselves to take a photo-shoot for us :] It was definitely the best part of our day- we are still laughing at all the photos. Thanks guys :]

Oh- Danielle also picked up our new book club book today. Our first meeting of the new book "The Help" is tonight! And apparently Kyle and Danielle decided to celebrate National Taco Day early.. so we are having tacos tonight! (Its actually tomorrow though.. so we might have them tomorrow too).

New Jersey

On Friday Danielle and I went to New Jersey to work at the All Tomorrows Parties festival. (One of Danielles coworkers needed extra help selling at his food stand)

First things first- we had to pick up some corn at union square.

Danielle got to drive for the first time in New York City!

I had to sit in the back with the corn. hahaha

Then it was off to New Jersey! We had to cross the Booklyn Bridge.. and I got to take this awesome picture.

Our first job was to fashion a tablecloth out of the burlap sacks.

And then to make the sign

This is us setting up :] The food stand was for this sandwich shop called "I 8 NY."

Today they were serving Bloody Mary BLT's. Grilled Corn with Smoked Apple Butter. and Verbena Lemonade.

This is us taking a break from setting up.

This is the Bloody Mary BLT. It was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. It has all the ingredients of a bloody mary into a BLT. They had a horseradish mayonnaise, and the bacon was marrinated in a bloody mary-type sauce, all on sourdough bread. SO SO SO bomb. I highly recommend everyone to try this if they come here!

We were finally finished setting up at 3pm. But right after selling our very first sandwich- the rain started to pour! It stopped for about 15 minutes at a time, then would start up again. We all were soaked and freezing pretty much the entire time..and Danielle had to keep re-writing the board because it kept getting washed away.

Soooo needless to say, we didn't get to sell too much food, but it was still fun. We ate bomb food. Hung out with fun people. And made about $10 each in tips! Danielle stayed there so that she could work on Saturday too. I decided to go home because I was super exhausted and started to not feel so well. After a long drive and even longer train ride home- I finally arrived home around 4:30am.
